Discontinuing this Blog

September 8, 2008

After long thought over the past few months, I’ve decided to discontine this blog.  Partly due to the reason, I just don’t have time to keep it going.  But the other reason, which is a big one, is, frankly, I’ve run out of original things to write and rant about regarding this team.

It started off as a funny blog…poking fun at Millen’s mishaps during the 2007 draft and beyond.  For a while it was just news.  Then I decided to post opinionated posts regarding this team.

I love the Lions, I’m not giving up on them.  But the truth of the matter is, I’ve run out of things to rant about how bad this football team is.  There is absolutely nothing I could write that we all haven’t heard the past 10 (and in some cases 50) years.  And you can really sum up every posting I’ve ever written in this one sentence: This team sucks, and will ALWAYS suck.  Nothing else I can write about can be taken as something original.  We’ve seen it all, fans.

So, on that note, thank you to everyone who came by and read this blog, and even, in some cases, posted a blog entry or replied to something that was already written.

If you would like to read more Lions blogs that are still in effect…check out WDFN’s Lions page at:

There you will find links to many blogs and keep up to date on the latest news of your favorite football team.  I recommend you especially check out the links to the best Detroit Lions insider on the planet, Tom “Killer” Kowalski.

My oven mitts are off…take care, thank you, and good luck to you all.  Go Lions!

Lions release their official 2008 Schedule…

April 15, 2008

The Lions officially released their 2008 Regular Season schedule today. Their home opener will be September 14, 2008 against the Packers. They will end AT Green Bay on December 28.  The undeserving nationally televised Thanksgiving day game has the Titans coming to Fraud Field on November 27.

Crime in the NFL

April 5, 2008

This isn’t a post about the Lions. This is a post about the NFL. There have been a few incidents involving players and the law over the past few weeks. Bengals WR Chris Henry, Steelers LB James Harrison (charges have been dropped) and the latest being Browns DB Kenny Wright, who was released today following his actions.

The rule “3 Strikes and out” proposed last year is a good rule…however, is 3 strikes just too many? What I don’t understand is these players make more money in one year than many of us in our lifetimes. Yet, they continuously find ways to get themselves in trouble, by breaking the law. I don’t know about you, but if I were rich, the last place I would want to be is behind bars, and not being able to use and spend any of that incredibly large sum of money.

Perhaps it should be “1 Strike and out”? Or there needs to be more accountability programs. I don’t know what it’s like on teams, I’m not a football player. Players should not only be held accountable for their actions on the field to the coaches, but to each other as a football. This is true in most cases. But accountability should go beyond two or more players on the field, but off the field as well. The only problem faced in this solution, is we can’t expect players on teams to become friends if they don’t want to. Also there’s the fact that players come and go more frequently on every team, every year. So, we can’t expect a player to form a bond with someone else on the team if he was friends with a recently cut, retired or traded.

There are probably programs in the NFL to help eliminate these things, obviously there are programs for rookies and those in the NFL Draft…but perhaps ALL players need to be required to attend these types of programs annually.

Roger Goodell is doing a remarkable job punishing those that go above the law. The teams have also had to cut their own troublemakers. However, the key factor behind my post isn’t trying to find discipline after the incident, that’s already being done. The actual prevention altogether of the incident should be the main goal of the NFL.

Just my two cents. I’ll get off my soapbox now.

K.J. and Roy Roy Want Out!

December 4, 2007

exit.jpgWho can blame them?  Get out while you can!  Get yourself a career, and possibly a ring in another organization. I won’t be mad at you! In fact, I will be happy for you and root for you on your next teams.

Tom Kowalski reports Kevin Jones and Roy Williams want out of Detroit.  He also stated in his article that we shouldn’t be surprised if the Lions trade one or both of them.

You can find Killer’s article here:

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2007/12/williams_jones_likely_to_leave.html

Personally, if I were Mike Hart I’d play as poorly as I possibly can so I don’t get picked by the Lions in the 1st round.

WHATEVER…

December 3, 2007

I have nothing to write about this week regarding the game.  I honestly turned it off after the middle of the 3rd quarter in pure disgust.

We can vent…we can blurb the “Fire Millen” rant all we want…we can complain about the constant bad draft picks over the years…we can complain about Mr. Ford and how bad of an owner he is, or that he doesn’t care about the fans.  We can wish and pray that Millen would get fired, Ford would sell this team, and someone would come in and blow this thing up and put a winning football team on the field.  That will not happen.  Millen won’t ever get fired, Ford will never sell.

I’ve finally cracked and come to the conclusion that nothing will ever change with this team.  Plain and simple.  I apologize, but I sometimes feel like I’m wasting my time and your time even having this blog up to read and write about.  Why should we care anymore, when they don’t?

GREAT LAKES CLASSIC – TONIGHT @ 7:00PM

August 18, 2007

Lions
Browns
CW50

The Great Lakes Classic kicks off tonight, as the Lions visit the Browns in Cleveland. QB Brady Quinn is expected to take some snaps in this game following his holdout, and we’ll be seeing more of WR Calvin Johnson. 2006 Lions 3rd rounder RB Brian Calhoun is also expected to return to the field tonight, following his rookie season ending on the IR with a knee injury.

One of the primary concerns is QB Jon Kitna is supposedly expected to take snaps for most of the 1st half. If this actually does happen, let us all Lions fans hope that he’ll stay safe. An injury to Kitna in a meaningless preseason game? The thought makes me cringe. And with a less than average offensive line that had already allowed 1 sack in the first few snaps of last week’s game, this boasts some cause for concern.

You can find this game on CW50 starting tonight at 7pm EST.

“MAN DAYS” OF THE YEAR

August 14, 2007

Madden 2008 XBox 360 CoverAugust 14, 2007 at 12:00am was an exciting time for many of us “Maddenites” (such as myself). The local Meijer was packed with eager sports fans. Being a PC user I am currently installing it and waiting in anticipation to play in the next 10-15 minutes…so this gave me some time to reflect on the greatest “Man Days” of the year. The days where all men all across the country make certain events national holidays for ourselves. The women dare not tread or interrupt these special days or there’s hell to pay.

What are your favorite Top 5 “Man Days”?

Here are mine:

#5. Madden Day – Millions of gamers around midnight in the middle of August flock to the stores like last minute Christmas shoppers on the Eve, all in hopes the next new version of Madden NFL brings them even more joy than the last version. After 5 minutes of trying to get past all the shrink wrap and security tape on the box, we pop it in our favorite consoles and play ALL night…making our dreams of taking our favorite team to the Super Bowl a reality in our own little worlds. And Franchise Mode? Tomorrow, 8 year old Billy down the street will lead the Lions to the Super Bowl…something Matt Millen could only dream of doing.

#4. Thanksgiving Day – Obviously, over the years, we Lions fans are subject to embarassment on National Television…and the more and more the Lions continue to spread their mediocrity all across the country and leave millions of turkeys across Detroit with diminshed flavor to our tongues, the more many of us start to believe the Lions shouldn’t even deserve a Thanksgiving Day game anymore. But, thanks to the NFL Network, there are now 3 football games on Thanksgiving Day (not to mention any type of college football exhibition games). The constant football, plus the ability to stuff ourselves without feeling guilty because we gained 10 pounds…makes this still such an incredible man day.

#3. Super Bowl Sunday – The parties, the game, the commercials, the chips and dip, the anticipation and the hype leading up to the game. Need I say more?

#2. NFL Draft Saturday - Yes, it’s generally a weekend event, but the first day is the most exciting. Filled with superstars every year coming out of college. And the NFL Draft has become the 2nd most popular NFL event besides the Super Bowl. Will there be trades? Who’s going to be #1? Will he turn that team around? It’s a wonderful day for both the NCAA and the NFL.

#1 New Years Day – The all-day bowls, the marching bands, the crowds, the cheerleaders, and most importantly, the games and the future superstars of the NFL.

Feel free to post yours.

PS – I take no credit for the term “Man Days”. I borrowed the term from Sean Baligian (Sports Radio 1130am WDFN – 9 to Noon), whom I heard it from first. Thanks, Sean!
